This elegantly curvaceous table was once part of a pair that flanked the entrance to an important room or was joined together to make a center table. It is made from Fir wood and features mortis-and-tenon joinery. The carving on the apron is quite delicate and refined for a piece of softwood furniture. The leg stretcher is made in the “cracked ice” pattern so favored by Chinese aristocrats. It is beautifully executed. All parts re original but the original finish has worn away. The current finish is genuine French polish with a coat of wax on top. The table is Norther, probably from Shandong.
