A Raised Marble Lotus Shaped Basin

This raised garden planter is ideal for grasses, moss or even water lilies. It was hand-carved in Hebei, China from bright white Hebei marble. The piece is made of two parts, a large shallow bowl and a pedestal. The bowl is lotus-shaped and decorated with carved qilins, the mythical signifier of blessing. The piece new but made in a historical style, decorated with lotuses. In Asian gardens the lotus is prized for its beauty and also its metaphorical meaning. The lotus has roots in the mud and grows through the muddy water toward the sun, blooming in the light, perfect and clean. The separate base is hexagonal with arches on all six sides.
