A 1920s Wooden Bracket on Stand

These exquisite antique brackets came from various old havelis in Gujarat that have been demolished due to age and structural instability. While most of the older havelis are made of brick and plaster, which commonly lose their integrity over long periods of time, the wooden parts often remain. Brackets are one of the few wooden structures that would survive in such conditions. Unique motifs can be seen, such as animal-floral hybrids like elephant-marigold and peacock-marigold. The elephant symbolizes wisdom, the peacock symbolizes grace, and the marigold symbolizes luck and love.
