A Burmese Betel Nut Box

A Burmese Betel Nut box made from rattan and bamboo, covered in bright orange cinnabar lacquer, with an etched design. The box has a large overlapping lid that snuggly seals the contents against drying out. Interior trays hold condiments. Chewing betel nut was a mild narcotic and a popular social habit in Burma up until the present day. Each box had a unique design and was carried by its owner.
