A Low Kang Chinese Chest
$3,800
This low kang chest is crafted from elmwood, featuring a long rectangular form with a floating panel top and a warm honey-toned patina. The façade is balanced with two side drawers and a central cabinet fitted with traditional double doors. Bold iron hardware—including circular hinges and a large round lock plate with drop pulls.
In the colder northern regions of China, winter life often centered around the kang, a raised brick platform warmed by heat from the kitchen stove. People sat or reclined on the kang for comfort, and low tables or cabinets like this were placed on the platform to serve as practical surfaces for meals, tea, or leisurely games.
