A British Colonial Desk
$3,200
$2,200
Crafted in Rangoon during the British colonial period, this antique table combines a restrained European form with traditional Burmese teak craftsmanship. Its substantial rectangular top is supported by elegantly turned legs terminating in small brass caster feet. During the height of the colonial era in the late 19th Century, Rangoon was a booming metropolis with a host of furniture makers that moved in to satisfy the British demand. Because the wood is resistant to both insects and moisture, most pieces were made from teak. The piece has been refinished but the original patina -complete with charming imperfections- has been saved.
