A Li (鬲) Tripod Vessel

Its hollow legs allowed heat to circulate evenly, reflecting the practical ingenuity of early Chinese ceramic technology. Vessels of this type were widely used within Neolithic domestic life and were also placed in elite burials, emphasizing their ritual and social importance. The restrained sculptural form, hand-built construction, and burnished grey terracotta material give this piece an almost modern appearance.
