A Han Entertainer Figure

Han Dynasty, Sichuan Province, China, 206 BCE–220 CE Large red terracotta figure of an entertainer produced in the Sichuan region during the Han Dynasty. The sculpture captures a lively sense of movement through flowing robes and an expressive posture, reflecting the dynamic artistic style associated with Sichuan funerary figures. Works of this type were created as mingqi burial objects intended to accompany and serve the deceased in the afterlife. Mineral accretions and erosion enhance the sculpture’s archaeological character.
