A Jalisco Ameca Warrior Figure

Jalisco Culture, West Mexico, c. 300 BCE–300 CE This terracotta Jalisco Ameca Pottery Warrior figure originates from the Jalisco region of West Mexico and reflects the distinctive sculptural traditions associated with the shaft-tomb cultures of ancient Mesoamerica. Modeled in a seated posture, the figure grasps a heavy club with both hands, emphasizing its identity as a warrior and guardian. The sculpture is decorated with red and cream pigments applied over a grey earthenware body, creating a striking contrast that highlights the figure’s costume and form.
