A Chinese Sideboard with three drawers

A handsome Chinese sideboard from northern China, c.1900, crafted from elmwood with a warm reddish-brown patina. The cabinet features three drawers above a pair of paneled doors, framed by substantial posts and a broad rectangular top. Shallow carved decoration across the drawer fronts adds a subtle ornamental element, while traditional metal hinges, pulls, and a large circular lock plate complete the restrained design. The solid, architectural proportions and prominent elm grain are characteristic of vernacular furniture from northern China, where elm was widely used for durable household cabinetry.
