A Monumental Indian Entrance Door

This monumental set of 19th-century doors was crafted in Gujarat, India, from solid Sheesham wood. The surface has been fully scrubbed and cleaned of residual paint, revealing the natural beauty of the grain. The doors are impressively large and heavy, constructed from wide planks reinforced with wooden cross beams and iron spikes, visible on the reverse. The top beam is carved with peacocks and a goddess figure. In India, large doors were meant to impress and symbolize wealth or power. The doors have elaborate locking mechanisms for maximum security. They rest on massive wooden hinge pins, allowing smooth and easy operation despite their great weight. The archway ensemble can be installed whole, inside or outside, or disassembled, with the door frame used in one location and the doors used elsewhere.
