A Tree Root Console Table
$8,800
This extraordinary console table is made from a single section of an enormous rosewood root. In the Northern Thai forest, dead tree stumps (and roots) are sometimes excavated with the help of modern equipment. This tree root was harvested in the early 2000’s and sat in the ground for over 50 years. The tree itself was several hundred years old. The most valuable roots are from slowly-decaying hardwoods, such as teak and rosewood. The wood is carefully cleaned and then cut by massive sawblades -the very largest roots can be sliced to form console tables. This rosewood table has a large useful top surface and a fully finished back and front. It is unusually dense and heavy and the color is natural. A sealer has been applied and a coat of furniture wax. If it is to free stand, a stabilizing floor plate can be added.
