Carved from a single tree trunk, Bamileke lattice stools were used in Cameroon as symbolic seats in important village ceremonies. The lattice webbing represents both the life cycle and the divine wisdom of the earth spider. As a stool or table, this organic form is a sculptural mix of gentle curves and an ordered grid punctuated with raised buttons. This stool dates to the mid-20th Century.
