A Double-Door Indian Entrance
$9,800
A handsome teak double door entrance set from Gujarat, India, with original patina in soft greens and blues. The solid inner doors were often left open during the day, while the outer doors, with metal bars, remained closed for security and privacy but allowing air to circulate. The inner doors are beautifully carved, and feature raised oval panels in their centers. They are reinforced with large metal fittings and oversized brass handles. A very large hand-forged iron latch could be locked from the outside for additional nighttime security. The green color reflects traditional Indian beliefs in prosperity and protection. The color is renewed frequently as the natural pigments fade. These doors have the complex and layered patina that comes from many years of exposure to sun and rain.
