A pre-Columbian "bullet" style burnished terra cotta amphora.  This vessel is from the Carchi-Narino Highlands, Narino culture, ca. 1250 to 1500 CE. A lovely hand-built pottery amphora of the classic style with a highly burnished surface, the piece is finished with deep vermilion and black negative resist geometric motifs. The vessel has a lozenge-shaped body with a rounded base, a sloping shoulder that tapers to a cylindrical neck, and a flared rim. The neck is ringed with parallel registers of concentric circles.  A metal display stand is included.
