Sandstone Wall Plaque

This red sandstone carving was once embedded in the wall surrounding an aristocratic compound. It depicts scholars in a garden, eating and conversing. It came from Shanxi Province and dates to the 18th Century. Such carvings are quite rare now as old courtyard houses are carefully protected from demolition.
