FULCRUMPOINT | AuxIN: All In! Amplified What?! What is an Instrument?

Terrific performance last Thursday at our store by the talented, innovative musicians of Fulcrum Point. The evening consisted of 5 different pieces of unique music composed for bubble wrap, paper, and shiny metal discs dipped in water. What is music? Scroll down...

As one of Chicago's leading antique stores and as a home furnishings store and art gallery it was a special privilege for us to make a connection to the world of performance art. High-end furniture and experimental sounds seem quite far apart but, it did not feel that way last Thursday. Custom sounds + custom furniture all under one roof downtown.

Fulcrum Point New Music Project pushes the boundaries of the musical experience globally by supporting new compositions, creating & performing transformative new music experiences and educating audiences of all ages and backgrounds to imagine the possibilities of music.

Performances throughout the night included:

Charles Peck
Synthetic Twin (4 players playing two instruments designed by the composer) (9 min)

Kotoka Suzuki
In Praise of Shadows (3 players playing different kinds of paper) (9 min)

Tonia Ko
Breath, Contained (5 players playing bubble wrap, 1 mixer/electronics) (14min)
