In our trips to France we often come across vintage French club chairs that need some “love” to be useable again. Most are leather and need only their springs retied or stuffing rearranged. Others need more extensive work. We found this set in a market in Montpellier, France and immediately liked their shape. Once they arrived in Chicago we started a full restoration including sanding down and staining the arms, retying the existing springs (which were of excellent quality) and replacing the upholstery with modern mohair. The chairs were sold a few months later.
The chairs were found in a market in the South of France.
Restoring the hardwood arms began with hand-sanding.
